Written by Tyrone Richardson on January 8, 2024
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the unique mental health challenges faced by Black Men. Despite the increasing awareness and exposure to the crisis there remains a significant gap in understanding and addressing these issues. “Broken” is an 8-episode podcast that aims to shed light on the complexities of Black men’s mental health, challenge stereotypes and stigmas, and foster a deeper understanding of the cultural, social, and historical factors that contribute to mental health disparities within this demographic. Our target geographic audience will be Black Men who work and reside in Philadelphia and surrounding regions. Participants of the podcast will range in the ages of 20 to 65 from various social and economic backgrounds. Partnering with professionals of diverse expertise will provide an opportunity to address this “Broken” from a variety of perspectives with sound solutions.
Objective:
The primary goal of “Broken” is to destigmatize conversations around mental health within the Black male community, encourage help-seeking behavior, and provide a platform for authentic and diverse voices to share their experiences. By addressing these distinctive challenges faced by Black men, the podcast series aims to promote mental well-being, resilience, and community support. In addition, we aim to raise funds, expand awareness and initiate a constant dialogue regarding Black Men’s Mental Health on an annual basis.
